Teaching English as a Second Language to young children is challenging, but at the same time an extremely rewarding experience. I believe that my job as an ESL teacher isn't only to teach, but to enspire and empower my students. My goal is to excite them and help them feel comfortable about speaking, reading, writing and comprehending the English language. My mission is to challenge the student to go beyond his own percieved limitations and to motivate him to want to learn more.
Insegnare inglese come seconda lingua ai bambini e`impegnativo, ma allo stesso tempo un'esperienza estremamente gratificante. Credo che il mio lavoro come insgenante ESL non e`solo di insegnare, ma di dare ispirazioni e responsabilita` ai miei studenti. Il mio obiettivo e`quello di stimolare loro per aiutarli a sentirsi a proprio agio nel parlare, scrivere e comprendere la lingua inglese. La mia missione e`quella di sfidare l'allievo ad andare oltre i propri limiti percepiti e motivarlo a voler saperne di piu.

L'apprendimento in Eta` Precoce
It has been proven that the best time to learn a foreign language is from birth to six years of age. After this the learning process slows down and becomes more difficult because the brain becomes contaminated with precise learning schemes like reading and writing. A child who doesn't know how to write never questions if the sentence "here you are" is made up of three words or simply "here"; to him it means the same thing.
A very important aspect about teaching/learning a foreign language is to limit the use of the mother tongue as much as possible in the classroom. After one month a young child understands basic words (colors, greetings etc.) and will repeat the words to simple songs and chants. After three months they understand simple commands and recognise the English language when they hear it spoken outsidde of the classroom. After six months the child is able to use simple commands when interacting with his friends (stand up, sit down, goodmorning, jump) and understands roughly 45% of what the teacher says during class.
E` provato che gli anni migliori per imparare una lingua straniera vanno dalla nascita fino ai sei anni. Dopodiche`, l'apprendimento diventera` sempre piu`difficile e lento perche` la mentre e` gia` stata contaminata da schemi precisi come, ad esempio, la scrittura. Un bambino che non sa scrivere non si pone mai il problema se la frase "here you are" e composta da piu` parole oppure e` una parola unica; per lui vuole dire "ecco qui" (il pennarello, la matita ecc.)
Un aspetto molto importante riguardo all'apprendimento di una lingua straniera e` limitare il piu` possibile l'uso della lingua madre durante le lezioni. Dopo un mese il bambino capisce e ripete (canta) canzoni, capisce e usa esempi di 'base' (colori, saluti...). Dopo tre mese il bambino capisce semplici richieste e riconosce la lingua inglese quando la sente fuori della classe. Dopo sei mesi il bambino usa semplici richieste quando interagisce con i compagni (stand up, sit down, good morning, jump) capisce circa 45% di quello che dice l'insegnante nel contesto della classe.
